Shift Supervisor l Foreman (Opencast Mining)

• Production Supervision: Lead and supervise mining production crews, communicate production priorities, allocate labour and equipment, monitor daily and weekly outputs, and ensure production work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with the approved mining plan.
• Safety, Health, Environment and Quality: Enforce compliance with legal, company, client and site-specific SHEQ requirements, conduct workplace inspections, participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks, stop or escalate unsafe work, and ensure hazards, incidents and non-conformances are reported and addressed timeously.
• People and Crew Management: Direct, coach and control team members, manage attendance and labour utilisation, confirm that employees are competent and authorised for assigned tasks, maintain discipline and escalate labour, conduct or capability issues through the correct channels.
• Equipment and Resource Coordination: Coordinate the effective use of mining equipment, tools, materials and working areas, ensure pre-use inspections are completed, follow up on breakdowns and defects, and liaise with maintenance, engineering, technical and planning teams to minimise delays.
• Production Reporting and Communication: Record, verify and report production results, equipment utilisation, delays, overtime, incidents, hazards, material usage and shift handover information accurately and timeously to management and relevant departments.
• Operational Improvement and Cost Control: Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, equipment availability, housekeeping, material flow, labour utilisation and work practices, and implement approved corrective or improvement actions within area of responsibility.
• The employee is responsible for performing all duties honestly and accurately, enforcing safe and productive work standards, protecting company assets, stopping or escalating unsafe work where required, reporting incidents and deviations immediately, and requesting guidance where any instruction, condition or requirement is unclear.

• Where employees are assigned to a client site, mine section, pit, shaft, plant interface or operational area, they shall comply with all client and site-specific training, SHEQ, access control, equipment, traffic, security, competency, authorisation, policy, procedure, standard and lawful instruction requirements. In the event of any conflict, the client’s site requirements shall take precedence, provided they meet or exceed the Company’s minimum standards and legal obligations.

Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification is essential. A Blasting Certificate, Opencast Rock Breaking Certificate, Shift Supervisor Certificate, Mine Overseer Certificate, Competent A certificate, relevant mining qualification, supervisory development programme, safety qualification or related technical qualification is advantageous and may be required depending on the mine, commodity, mining method and legal appointment requirements.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mining production environment is advantageous, including at least 3 years in a miner, team leader, shift supervisor, foreman or equivalent frontline supervisory capacity. Experience in underground, surface, opencast, quarrying or mechanised mining operations must be aligned to the site requirements. Experience supervising crews, meeting production targets, coordinating equipment, controlling labour utilisation, conducting inspections, maintaining safety compliance and managing shift handovers will be beneficial.
