Workshop Manager

Qualifications:

• Trade Test Certificate (Diesel Mechanic, Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic, or related technical trade).
• Relevant supervisory or management qualification will be advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a workshop maintenance environment.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
• Experience managing heavy-duty vehicles, mining equipment, or earthmoving machinery.
• Experience on CAT 950L, CAT966L, CAT D8R and FAW trucks will be an advantage.
• Strong understanding of maintenance planning and fleet management principles.
• Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.

TECHNICAL KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Operations Management (Primary Focus)

• Manage and oversee the daily operations of the company fleet and workshop functions to ensure optimal equipment availability and reliability.
• Monitor fleet performance and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and minimise downtime.
• Ensure assets are maintained and operated in accordance with company standards and operational requirements.
• Coordinate resources effectively to support operational demands across all sites.

Maintenance Planning & Asset Management

• Ensure sites with dedicated mechanics effectively plan, schedule, and execute preventative maintenance activities in accordance with company standards.
• Provide oversight and support to sites without dedicated maintenance personnel to ensure maintenance requirements are addressed timeously.
• Monitor equipment performance and coordinate corrective maintenance activities where required.
• Ensure accurate maintenance records, servicing histories, and equipment documentation are maintained.
• Maintenance programmes and ensure maintenance planning is executed effectively across all sites.

Equipment Health Management
Monitor equipment health through telematics systems and oil sample analysis results.
Identify equipment risks and implement corrective action plans to prevent failures and optimise equipment performance.
Analyse equipment trends and recommend initiatives to improve reliability and asset life.
Ensure equipment condition monitoring processes are effectively implemented and maintained.

Planned Component Replacement (PCR) Management
Plan and manage Planned Component Replacement (PCR) and repair schedules in accordance with equipment Life Cycle Cost (LCC) requirements.
Ensure major component replacements are executed within prescribed intervals and budget parameters.
Monitor component performance and make recommendations to maximise asset value and reliability.

Supplier & Warranty Management
Manage the quality of repairs completed by external suppliers and service providers.
Monitor supplier performance and ensure adherence to required standards and service level agreements.
Manage supplier warranties and ensure warranty claims are submitted, tracked, and resolved effectively.
Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers to support operational requirements.

Deviation Management
Manage the deviation tracking process and ensure the deviation register remains accurate and up to date.
Ensure all responsible parties complete actions assigned to them within agreed timelines.
Monitor outstanding deviations and escalate unresolved matters where necessary.
Provide regular reporting on deviation status and corrective actions.

People Management
Lead, supervise, and develop workshop and maintenance personnel.
Allocate work effectively and monitor performance against established standards.
Identify training and development requirements within the team.
Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and company requirements.
Conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox talks.
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where required

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all operations.

Reporting & Administration

Prepare and submit fleet, maintenance, and operational reports.

Monitor key performance indicators, maintenance trends, and equipment performance metrics.

Ensure all maintenance documentation, inspections, repair records, and job cards are accurately completed and maintained.

Provide management with recommendations to improve equipment reliability, fleet performance, and cost effectiveness.
