DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Procurement Planning

  • Develop project specific procurement strategies and plans aligned with project timelines and budgets.
  • Conduct market research to identify suitable suppliers and assess market conditions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Projects and Finance Teams to forecast requirements and define procurement specifications.

 

Sourcing and Tender Management

  • Prepare and issue RFQs, RFPs and tenders for equipment, materials and services.
  • Conduct bid evaluation (technical and commercial) and prepare tender recommendations reports.
  • Lead negotiations to secure optimal pricing, cost management, delivery and contractual terms.
  • Ensure adherence to governance requirements, including Contract & Purchasing Committee submissions and approval protocols.

Contracting

  • Draft and review contracts in alignment with organisational templates and legal standards.
  • Monitor contracts execution, ensuring compliance with scope, cost and performance obligations.
  • Maintain accurate contract records and manage renewals, amendments and close-outs.

Supplier Management

  • Identify, prequalify and manage suppliers to ensure capability, reliability and compliance.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluation and implement cost & efficiency improvement plans where necessary.
  • Facilitate supplier meetings and resolve performance or delivery issues.

Compliance and Reports

  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, health and safety standards and regulatory frameworks including B-BBEE and local content requirements.
  • Prepare and present reports on resource status, component lifespan, and repair costs to management.
  • Track procurement spend, savings and performance metrics for reporting purposes.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation for audit and project review purposes.

Sustainability and Continuous Improvement

  • Promote ethical and sustainable procurement practices, supporting ESG goals.
    • Achievement of cost savings and value optimisation.
    • Timely procurement and delivery in line with project schedules.
    • Contract compliance and supplier performance ratings.
      • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to optimize cost, efficiency and transparency.
      • Support lessons learned and knowledge sharing initiatives post project.
      • Stay informed about market trends, new technologies, and innovative purchasing solutions to support cost reduction and process improvements. Procurement documentation accuracy and audit ratings.
    • Minimum 5 to 8 years of procurement experience, preferably in mining or heavy equipment industry.
    • Proven experience in tender management, contract negotiation and supplier performance management.
    • Working knowledge of ERP systems e.g. Accpac.
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering or Business Management.Working knowledge of Workflow systems e.g. BPM.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
    • Trade Certification
      • Certificate in Supply Chain Management or Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) will be advantageous.

      Experience

    • • Minimum 5 to 8 years of procurement experience, preferably in mining or heavy equipment industry.
      • Proven experience in tender management, contract negotiation and supplier performance management.
      • Working knowledge of ERP systems e.g. Accpac
    • Working knowledge of Workflow systems e.g. BPM.
    • Experience managing high-value and technically complex contracts.
  • SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

     

    Technical Skills

    • Valid Driver’s license.
    • Deep understanding of mining supply categories and project procurement.
    • Adequate knowledge of mechanical equipment and electrical equipment used in the mining environment for procurement purposes.
    • Strong all-round technical knowledge and understanding of mining processes.
    • Financial and commercial acumen.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement systems (BPM).
    • Familiarity with ESG and local procurement policies (B-BBEE, Mining Charter, etc).
    • The ability to analyse data, evaluate bids, and resolve complex procurement-related issues.

      Working Conditions

      • Mine based location.
      • May require travel to supplier premises for quality control inspections.
      • Flexibility to work extended hours during peak project phases.

       

      INHERENT REQUIREMENTS:

      • Certificate of Fitness to work in a mining environment.
















Description

This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for goods and services required for mining projects. The role ensures that all procurement activities comply with company policies, project timelines, and industry regulations, while achieving cost efficiency, quality standards and suppliers performance targets.
