QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc Analytical Chemistry/Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering
  • Graduate: 8 years laboratory manager experience, non-graduate 10 – 12years’ laboratory manager experience
  • XRF and Chrome experience

SKILLS:

  • Ability and drive to resolve practical problems
  • Computer literate with statistical analysis/statistical process control
  • Knowledge of calibrating XRF
  • Excellent people skills.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the wash plant control laboratory
  • Ensure accurate, reliable and timeous analytical results to support production
  • Oversee sample receipt, preparation, analysis and reporting
  • Supervise, mentor and develop laboratory staff
  • Maintain quality control systems, methods and standards (ISO / SANAS aligned)
  • Ensure calibration, maintenance and performance of analytical instruments (XRF)
  • Audit daily laboratory workflows for compliance and accuracy
  • Enforce SHEQ, Mine Health & Safety and good housekeeping standards
  • Validate analytical results and issue laboratory reports
  • Control external sampling cost and internal laboratory consumables, chemicals and operating costs
  • Drive continuous improvement and internal capability development

Our mining client based in Limpopo between Burgersfort and Steelpoort is seeking the services of a Laboratory manager to join their team

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Wash Plant Control Laboratory to ensure accurate, timeous and reliable analytical results that support production, quality control and metallurgical optimisation. The role oversees sample management, analytical workflows, quality control systems and laboratory personnel, while ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental and quality standards. Key responsibilities include supervising laboratory staff, auditing daily workflows, validating analytical results, maintaining instrument performance (XRF, ICP, LECO and wet chemistry), implementing quality standards, and providing reliable technical data to operations. The position plays a critical role in developing internal laboratory capability, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring disciplined, compliant and cost-effective laboratory operations aligned with companies values and operational requirements.”
