Fleet Performance Controller (Opencast Mining Operations)

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Monitoring & Performance Tracking

• Monitor and track truck movements, cycle times and haul distances using the AVA System and other available tools
• Analyse equipment utilisation, availability and productivity
• Monitor and report on idle time, standing time and delays
• Track machine hours and compare actual vs planned performance

Contractor Performance & Cost Control

• Verify contractor fleet performance against billed hours and contractual agreements
• Identify and report on:
  • Non-operational or underutilised equipment
  • Excessive idle time or inefficiencies
  • Variances between actual and billed hours
• Support validation and reconciliation of contractor invoices

Reporting & Data Analysis

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly fleet performance reports for the General Manager
• Provide insights on:
  • Fleet utilisation
  • Productivity trends
  • Cost inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
• Maintain accurate records and dashboards using the AVA system and internal reporting tools

Operational Support

• Work closely with site operations and contractors to improve fleet efficiency
• Provide recommendations to optimise truck allocation and reduce downtime
• Support the future development of a centralised control room environment

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) – essential
• Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or related field – advantageous

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in mining operations, fleet monitoring, or equipment control
• Experience working with contractor-managed fleets in an open-pit mining environment
• Proven experience using fleet management or monitoring systems (AVA System experience highly advantageous)
• Strong understanding of:
  • Truck cycles and haul operations
  • Equipment utilisation and productivity metrics
  • Contractor billing structures

• Strong reporting and presentation skills
• Assertive and confident in dealing with contractors and stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and report directly to senior management
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools

• Fleet utilisation and productivity levels
• Reduction in idle and non-productive time
• Accuracy in contractor billing verification
• Identification and reporting of cost-saving opportunities
• Quality and timeliness of reporting

Additional Information

• This role will play a key part in improving operational efficiency and cost control
• The successful candidate will be instrumental in the future transition to a dedicated mining control room environment
