Qualifications:
? Matric or equivalent.
? Concrete-specific qualification (strongly preferred).
? Certificate in Concrete Technology (e.g., SCC ? SACPCMP/Concrete Society Course, or equivalent).
? SANS 878 & SANS 50197 familiarity in relation to cement types and concrete properties.
? Concrete Batch Plant Operator Certification (advantageous).
? Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Production, Construction Materials, or related field (advantageous).
Experience:
? Minimum 3?5 years? experience managing a Ready-Mix batching plant, concrete production facility, or similar aggregates/production environment.
? Strong technical knowledge of concrete batching, aggregate moisture correction, slump/consistency control, and plant equipment.
? Experience working within SANS quality standards, including:
? SANS 878 (Mixing, batching and delivery of concrete);
? SANS 2001-CC1/CC2;
? SANS 50197 (Cement strength classes).
? Understanding of cube testing, curing, compressive strength requirements, and QC processes.
? Solid people management experience with the ability to lead plant teams in a high-pressure production setting.
? Working knowledge of HSE requirements and legal compliance frameworks.
? Computer literacy with experience on batching systems/ERP.
PERFORMANCE AREAS
Plant Operations & Production
? Oversee daily batching operations, ensuring accurate batching, consistent mix quality, and adherence to job-specific mix designs.
? Conduct moisture content adjustments and ensure correct water-cement ratios.
? Manage production planning, scheduling, truck dispatching, and customer delivery timelines.
? Ensure plant efficiency, equipment uptime, and proactive maintenance of batching plant components (weigh bins, conveyors, load cells, mixers, etc.).
Quality Control & Compliance
? Ensure compliance with SANS concrete standards, OMV specifications, and customer requirements.
? Conduct quality checks, slump tests, cube sampling, and troubleshooting of mix-related issues.
? Maintain accurate documentation for materials, batch records, test results, NCRs, and QC deviations.
? Drive continuous improvement in quality, batching accuracy, and product consistency.
Health, Safety & Environmental
? Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation.
? Enforce safe operating procedures across plant, loading, and truck movements.
? Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks with plant personnel.
People Leadership
? Lead, supervise, and develop all plant employees including operators, batchers, and yard staff.
? Set clear expectations, provide coaching, and maintain performance management discipline.
? Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safe work practices.
Cost & Stock Management
? Monitor operational costs, diesel usage, batching accuracy, and material consumption.
? Maintain effective stock control of cement, aggregates, admixtures, and consumables.
? Ensure accurate reporting and control of wastage, breakdowns, and downtime.
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
? Liaise professionally with customers, suppliers, dispatch teams, and internal stakeholders.
? Resolve technical challenges, delivery concerns, and quality queries promptly.
? Support planning of major pours and specialised concrete placement requirements.
The primary purpose of this role is to take full responsibility for the efficient, safe, and cost-effective operation of our Ready-Mix batching plant. The successful candidate will ensure production targets are met, SANS quality standards are maintained, and customer requirements are exceeded. This includes oversight of concrete mix designs, batching accuracy, plant maintenance, quality control, and continuous improvement across all operational processes.
